The grey sun rises
Regiments of soldiers stumble out of slumber
The lucky ones won't wake up
Now Lady Death begins her lullaby
As the waking nightmare begins
Blood-weary soldiers scramble over barbed fences
Their fallen brothers are trampled into muddy graves
There is no time to lament
Shells are fired, bombs are dropped
Bodies dismembered
Childhood prayers uttered, faithless,
By the dying on the field
But no one answers
In this Godless  hell
This was for a history assignment on WWI. It's supposed to embody what the trenches were like. I, of course, wouldn't know for sure what those men went through. This is just my best guess based on what I've learned

I don't know what went on in WWI either. But I give you an A for this assignment.
